Joliet is in Illinois, in the Midwest, where summers are warm, winters are cold and snowy, and most errands are done by car; businesses keep steady year-round hours with the usual holiday changes. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Joliet follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. Great place to CHECKOUT! No Charge! The Nature Center has a real Hawk in the back of the building in a cage and a sign that tells the story of why. You can borrow fishing poles during business hours. There is catfish, bass and bluegill to catch. This is a State Level protective forest. They provide various programs all year. I've gone to the bird watching class and learned much about birds and how they sound. You can borrow a pair of one of their 30 binoculars if you don't have your own. I did borrow a pair a few times. There is a nature preschool for 3 to 5 years old. You can do the walking trails, learn about plants, animals and how to make maple syrup. They host birthday parties and also have animals inside the building you can spend time looking at and read about. The Nature Center always has nice gifts for sell. 8 miles of trails and I noticed some are paved, making it wheel chair accessibility. The trails also connect to the Green House on Gougar Road. You can make your visit an all day event. Many schools take a field trip to this Nature Center. There is a huge book exchange once a year at the center where you can donate your books and pick up free books to take home. The

Although this wasn't a huge nature center the animals that were there clearly have been taken care of. They also had a very nice place where you can have a baby shower or other gatherings. I will definitely go back when I am visiting Illinois!

I came here two weeks ago just before Thanksgiving one afternoon to specifically see the nature center. There was no cost to enter. It had more animals than I thought which I enjoyed viewing. The hawk in the pictures I saw before I came passed away so there are only the animals inside; lots of turtles, snakes, guinea pig, frog, Axolotl, iguana, and a couple of others.

Fun place to bring kids after a walk in the woods. Several small animals to see and learn about, such as, tortoises, turtles, snakes, amphibians, fish and a red-tailed hawk. They also sell small nature related trinkets.
